This or That? Alternatives to Standard Floodlights and Driveway Lights at Your Home

Sometimes in life, you don’t know what you don’t know. So when it comes to your options for gorgeous outdoor lighting at your Seattle home, we are here to arm you with information.

Front of a home with special lighting

While we can offer ideas for better-illuminating all areas of your home’s exterior, there are two areas we have identified as often overlooked.

The floodlight, typically found on the corner of your home, maybe above the garage, shining brightly on your driveway or parking area.

And, driveway lighting. Driveway lighting is typically limited to one or two posts at the end of the driveway if there is any driveway lighting at all.

Floodlight Alternative Solutions

When you think of floodlights do you think of security lighting that creates a day-like glow of light in the area targeted by its bright beam? Me too. Often found above a garage or the corner of a home and shining brightly for the whole world to see. You keep it on anyway, to deter prowlers.

What if I told you that you could enjoy the benefits of security and safety with a more beautiful and subtle outdoor lighting design? One that would eliminate the harsh glare of the standard floodlight?

At Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Puget Sound, we create security lighting designs for Seattle homeowners that look beautiful, provide security, and don’t try to mimic daylight. We use a combination of focal lights, uplights, and path lights to wash your home and surrounding landscape with a consistent all-over glow.

We’ll place lighting near all of your home’s entrances to provide security where there maybe was none before, while simultaneously showing off your gorgeous landscaping and architectural features.

Since most people use floodlights to feel safer, we feel confident providing you a more aesthetically pleasing design that will, in fact, provide greater security to your entire property.

Driveway Lighting Alternatives

If you have driveway lighting at all, it likely consists of a post light or two. Sometimes placed on gorgeous brick pillars, this is a fabulous way to create a grand entrance at the end of your driveway. Where it doesn’t work is when your driveway is longer, has curves, or features a lot of landscaping nearby. It might be easy to miss the driveway and ruin landscaping or worse-yet, damage vehicles and injure people.

We like to integrate driveway lighting for the length of the driveway. The lighting we use is subtle but creates clear visibility for the edges of your driveway for safety and security.

We recommend a few driveway lighting alternatives you may not have thought of:

  • Integrated landscape lighting along both sides of your driveway.
  • Uplighting on the trees or other features to cast an indirect glow.
  • Path lighting casts a nice wash of light across the driveway for a subtle guide and dramatic beauty.
  • Recessed lighting in the driveway hardscape or retaining walls surrounding the driveway.
